Epitaph for my father Sorry, Dad. I couldn't accomplish what you asked for since mom is still around. I remember walking with you in the Cemetery in Marion on a summer afternoon, working on a family tree, making a list of people we figured were related by the "Campbell" on their graves. each tombstone was inscribed with "Gone to rest in the lord" or some other lovely sentiment. Or praying hands. All lulling in their niceness. You said , " When I go, Mary, I want people to remember my tombstone. I want to have a hand pointed Heavenward and the middle finger extended. that'll catch their eye." Now you're in that same cemetery, and it says "Gone Fishing" with a picture of a man with a fish on a hook. not bad. That's sure to get some attention. People will stop and look at it and remember. But it's not what you asked for. so dad. here's my try. one attempt, but not the last attempt, to catch their eye .
